Vehicle Collection Explained
Using Metro Salvage, we guarantee a Vehicle Collection Service couldn't be easier. We pick up the vehicle at your convenience and provide you with all the necessary paper work. We wanted to take a moment to explain the vehicle collection process so that you can see just how easy it is.
To start the Scrap Car Process you will need to fill in one of our Online Scrap Forms. This is a quick and easy process where you are required to fill in your vehicle's registration number, our advanced system will then automatically populate your vehicles details, leaving you with only your personal details to enter (Don't worry if you do not have your Registration Number, you can enter the Vehicles Details manually if required, this also applies for Registration Numbers that cannot be identified).
Once you have filled out the form, one of our representatives will give you a call. They will verify the online details you have given and will discuss price, special collection arrangements and a date/time for collection. They may ask you some more in depth questions about the vehicle. You should note that we usually carry out vehicle collection within 3 days of contact. However we cannot guarantee this if we are particularly busy.
Once this is complete one of our collection personnel will come to collect the vehicle on the agreed day, at the agreed time.
When he arrives he will check the vehicle over to make sure it is as described. He will then settle any outstanding payment. At this point you should hand him the V5 registration document (Log Book), the last or current MOT certificate, any handbooks you may have and the locking nut adaptor (if your car has such for alloy wheels etc). He will complete that part of the V5 document which transfers ownership to us and leave you with the portion of the form that you need to sign and send off to the DVLA at Swansea. This is a legal requirement which states that ownership of the vehicle has now been transferred and that you have no further legal responsibility for it. It is important that you send this portion off within 7 days.
Once this is complete, your vehicle will be taken away. This is essentially the end of the vehicle collection process, however once we have the vehicle a whole new process begins.
We emphasise that where possible, you provide us with the cars log book. Having all the correct documentation makes it much easier for us, however we will not turn down cars if you do not have one.
On returning to our Car Breakers base we will decide whether to dismantle your vehicle, allowing other people to gain extended life of their vehicle by reusing good parts from your scrap vehicle, we may instead choose to designate it as an End of Life Vehicle immediately in which case it will be De-polluted and crushed or baled prior to shipment to a specialist metal processor for shredding and further separation of materials (plastics, ferrous / non-ferrous metals etc.)
The destruction process, once begun, signals the requirement for a Certificate of Destruction to be raised for the vehicle. This is completed by our staff through the online link we have to the DVLA database. The last notification you receive will be a copy of the destruction certificate which will be posted to you. If you have any further questions on the process please don't hesitate to contact us.
NOTE: If a verbal agreement is made and cancelled without prior warning then you maybe charged. This is to cover the travel that our representative has had to make. We ask that you keep to your appointments and thank you for your co-operation.
